Loggers Draw First In First Place Showdown

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. – Kelsey McKinnis scored 21 points and the University of Puget Sound women's basketball team snapped an eight-game losing streak to George Fox with a 56-40 victory on Friday. The Loggers tenacious defense proved why it was the best scoring defense in the NWC, holding the Bruins (11-5, 5-2 NWC) to their lowest output since 2008.

"The team put some passion, so much heart and so much soul on to the court tonight," commented head coach Loree Payne. "Defense really won the game for us. It was a true team effort today."

As could be expected, the game was a defensive battle as both teams went over eight minutes without a field goal in the second half. The Loggers (13-3, 6-1 NWC) shot 32.8 percent from the floor, but held theBruins to just 27.7 percent shooting, including 10 percent shooting from three-point range.

McKinnis led the Loggers with 21 points on 7-of-19 shooting while Jocelyn Riordan added 16 points. Hannah Munger led the Bruins with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds while Keisha Gordon contributed 10 points.

George Fox scored the game's first points but the Loggers went on a 14-4 run over the next 10 minutes to take control of the game. The Bruins initial lead would be the only time they would lead in the game.

The Logger win sets up another first-place showdown when Lewis & Clark visits Memorial Fieldhouse tomorrow at 6 p.m. Both team own 6-1 records in conference play.
