Loggers Dominate The Boards In Road Win

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Just three minutes into the game, Sarah Stewart's layup gave the University of Puget Sound women's basketball team a 4-2 lead, which it would for the rest of the game. The Loggers (14-4, 7-2 NWC) never trailed en route to a 63-49 victory at Pacific.

Kelsey McKinnis and Jocelyn Riordan combined for 38 of the Loggers' 63 points to lead the Loggers past the Boxers (5-13, 1-8 NWC). Stewart and Lindsay Layland led the Loggers on the boards with 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively. The Loggers won the rebounding battle 45-38.

"Kelsey and Jocelyn had really good offensive games," commented head coach Loree Payne.  "Sarah and Lindsay came in and dominated on the boards, which was our focus this week. Pacific never went away. They kept fighting and we're fortunate to get win on the road in conference."

For the tenth time this season, the Loggers held their opponents under 50 points. The Loggers have won all 10 of those games.

Erica Shultz led the Boxers with 18 points wile Paige Jensen pulled down 12 rebounds.

The Loggers held the Boxers to 37.3 percent shooting and 21.4 percent shooting from three-point range. The Logger shot 31.6 percent from long range but built an early lead with 41.7 percent three-point shooting in the first half.

The Loggers head to Salem, Ore. tomorrow to face Willamette at 6 p.m.
