Box Score McMINNVILLE, Wash. – Abby Goss scored the only goal of the match at 75:02 mark to lift the Puget Sound women's soccer to a 1-0 win over Linfield on Saturday.
The match was a defensive battle with only seven shots taken between the two teams. The Wildcats (11-3-2, 8-2-2 NWC) held the shot advantage 4-3 over the Loggers (10-2-2, 8-1-2 NWC).
However, Goss put away one of the Loggers three shots in the 76th minute on an assist from Kylie Beeson. Goss took two of the Loggers three shots in the match.
Linfield put three of their four shots on goal but Kara Merfeld came up with three saves to preserve the shutout.
With the win, the Loggers climb into a tie with Linfield for first place in the NWC standings. However, the Loggers have played one less game and now control their own destiny with one less loss than Linfield this season.
The Loggers head to Willamette tomorrow for a noon match in Salem, Ore.
