Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Two second-half goals from the hosts lifted Willamette over the Puget Sound women's soccer team on Sunday. The loss keeps the Loggers (10-3-2, 8-2-2 NWC) in a tie with Linfield atop the NWC standings.
Stephanie Skelly scored both goals for the Bearcats (9-6-1, 8-3-1 NWC) with the game-winner coming just 21 seconds before the end of the match. Ashley Bernard played Skelly in behind the defense and Skelly hit a shot past Kara Merfeld for the game-winner.
Merfled made five saves in the match. The Bearcats two goals mark the first time this season that she has allowed multiple goals.
Skelly scored in earlier in the match in the 58th minute when Andrea Rowan volleyed a pass in from the right sided to tie the match at 1-1.
Robin Vieira gave the Loggers a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when she tapped in a rebound to the lower right corner. The rebound came off a save from a Jenny Moore shot.
Gina Barbieri, the Bearcats keeper, made two saves in the match to earn the victory.
The Loggers return home on Wednesday to face crosstown rivals Pacific Lutheran in a 3:30 p.m. midweek match.
