23rd-Ranked Loggers Fall To 24th-Ranked Pirates

TACOMA, Wash. – The No. 23 Puget Sound volleyball team fell 25-22, 26-24, 25-16 to the 24th-ranked Whitworth Pirates on Friday. Jackie Harvey tallied 10 kills and 10 digs to lead the Loggers (16-5, 8-5 NWC).

Amanda Grumbach led the Pirates (15-5, 12-1 NWC) with 12 kills and 19 digs.  Kristine Kardell added 10 kills for the Pirates, who also had four players tally double digits in digs.

After the Loggers took a lead early in the first set, the Pirates came back to erase their deficit and hold on for a first set victory. The score remained tight throughout the second set with the Loggers coming back to force the Pirates to play for an extra point. However, the Pirates scored the next two points to take the 26-24 win.

In the third set, the Pirates quickly built a lead, which they held throughout the set for the sweep.

Brynn Blickenstaff had seven kills for the Loggers while Juliette Witous added 16 digs.

The Loggers host Whitman tomorrow at Stadium High School at 5 p.m.
