Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Lauren Hamilton scored the game-winner and the Puget Sound women's soccer team defeated Pacific 3-0 on Saturday. The win is the fifth straight win for the Loggers (8-2, 6-1 NWC) and the fifth consecutive shutout for Kara Merfeld.
In the 25th minute, Hamilton put the Loggers on the board when she buried a shot off of corner kick from five yards out. Lauren Swanson earned the assist after taking the corner.
The Loggers took the 1-0 advantage into halftime as they outshot the Boxers (6-4-1, 3-2-1 NWC) 6-1 in the first 45 minutes. The second half was a much different story as the Boxers outshot the Loggers 9-5; however, Merfeld was up to the task as she turned away both shot that were put on goal.
Although the Boxers held more possession in the second half, the Loggers found a couple of insurance goals when Mikaela Freeman headed home a goal in the 63rd minute. Kylie Beeson further padded the lead in the 85th minute when she scored from 15 yards out after receiving a cross from Abby Goss.
Merfeld made three saves in the contest as she extended her scoreless streak to 510 minutes to start her Logger career. Brittany Hartmann made four saves in goal for the Boxers.
Shekema MCarthy put two of the Boxers three shots on goal but couldn't find a way past Merfeld.
The Loggers head to Lewis & Clark tomorrow for a noon match with the Pios.
