Loggers Finish Strong In Loss At SPU

Box Score

SEATTLE, Wash. – Kelsey McKinnis scored a game-high 20 points but the Puget Sound women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, 71-60 to Seattle Pacific. The Loggers (2-1) outscored the Falcons (4-1) 38-36 in the second half but the Falcons were able to hold on for the win.

McKinnis was 7-of-13 from the floor and 4-for-8 in three point attempts to lead the Loggers. Amanda Forshay added 10 points and Taylor Jones added nine points off the bench.

Rachel Murray hit the game's first two baskets and the Falcons led the whole way en route to the victory. After the first half, the Falcons held a commanding 35-22 victory. However, the Loggers came out strong in the second half.

We competed down to very end and we had momentum toward the end of the game," said head coach Loree Payne. "We never backed down and I'm very proud of the team for that."

They forced 13 Falcon turnovers in the final 20 minutes while only turning the ball over five times in the half. The Falcons shot 66.7 percent in the half to keep the Loggers at arm's length and hold on for the win.

"Tonight was a very good stepping-stone for us heading into a big weekend against St. Joes and Concordia," added Payne.

The Loggers will host St. Joe's on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Concordia on Sunday at 2 p.m.
