Blickenstaff Reaches 1,000 Career Kills In Logger Sweep

SALEM, Ore. – Brynn Blickenstaff had 10 kills to lead the Puget Sound volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-13, 25-15 sweep of Willamette. Blickenstaff surpassed 1,000 career kills.

Blickenstaff led the hot-hitting Loggers (18-6, 10-6 NWC) to a .298 team hitting percentage. She hit .409 on the night and Jaime Ecklund pounded 7 kill with a .312 hitting percentage. Marissa Florant also had seven kills for the Loggers.

Danica Reed led the Bearcats (8-17, 5-11 NWC) with seven kills. However, the Bearcats hit just .057 as a team, including a negative percentage in each of the last two sets.

In the first set the Loggers took the lead at 2-1 and never looked back as they led the rest of the way. A few sizable runs landed the Loggers a 10-4 lead and they held on in the most competitive set of the match.

The Loggers never trailed in the second set and used a seven-point run in the middle of the set to easily defeat the Bearcats.

The third set started with the Bearcats taking an early lead, which they held as late as 8-7. However, the Loggers used another seven-point run to take a 13-8 lead and hold on for the sweep.

The win caps the Loggers 2011 regular season. The Loggers will now await the announcement from the NCAA to see if they are invited to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show airs Monday at 8 a.m. (PT).
