THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – A furious second half comeback came up just shy as the Puget Sound women's basketball team fell 65-56 on Monday night to Cal Lutheran. The Loggers (6-4) forced 19 turnovers from the Regals (4-4) but couldn't overcome an early deficit.

"We played a very good final 10 minutes of basketball," said head coach Loree Payne. "Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to overcome the first half deficit. We learned from tonight and are ready to face a tough opponent in Occidental tomorrow."

Kelsey McKinnis led the Loggers with 13 points but the Loggers shot just 27 percent as a team. Jocelyn Riordan was the only other Logger in double digits with 11 points.

The Loggers fell in an early hole as they trailed 37-26 at the half. Although the shots weren't falling for the Loggers, the defense stepped up in the second half and limited the Regals to just 28 points.

Jazmyne Porter led the Regals with 17 points and eight rebounds. Cameron Jones contributed 11 points for the home team.

With the 11-point lead at halftime the Regals came out determined to put the game away in the second half. Porter's lay-in on a fastbreak with 8:33 left in the game gave the Regals their largest lead of the game at 59-38.

The Loggers responded with an 18-0 run to close the gap to 59-56 with 1:24 left. Ashley Agcaoili capped the run with a layup. However, the Loggers were kept off the board over the final 84 seconds while the Regals hit six clutch free throws to put the game away.

The Loggers are now 0-2 on their southern California road trip with one game left at Occidental tomorrow. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
