Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound women's basketball team had their title hopes dashed with 75-44 loss to Lewis & Clark on Friday. The Pioneers (19-5, 13-2 NWC) scored the first nine points of the game and never trailed.
The Loggers (18-6, 11-4 NWC) needed to win both games this weekend in order to claim the NWC title and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. With the loss and George Fox's victory tonight, the Loggers cannot finish higher than third.
It was a rough shooting night for the Loggers as they shot just 22.4 percent in the game. Jocelyn Riordan was the only Logger to reach double digits with 11 points. Kristina Williams had a game-high 21 points for the Pios.
"Lewis & Clark played an incredible game tonight. They came out with passion and heart and got it done," said head coach Loree Payne. "We couldn't match their intensity on the boards. We will take what we can from this game and move our focus to a very good George Fox team."
The Pios also paced the victory by winning the battle on the boards. They outrebounded the Loggers 58-29 in the game.
The Loggers will travel to George Fox tomorrow for a 6 p.m. tipoff. The Loggers and Bruins could likely meet in the NWC semifinals in Newberg, Ore. on Thursday.
