Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's soccer team bounced back from a tough loss with a 3-0 shutout of the host, Whitworth. Kara Merfled earned her first start in goal for the Loggers (4-2, 2-1 NWC) and recorded the shutout.
Merfeld made four saves in the contest to record her first shutout.
Kylie Beeson put the Loggers up early with a goal in the ninth minute. She picked up a rebound off a shot on the left side and buried it for an early Logger lead. In the 29th minute, Mikaela Freeman struck a shot from 25 yards out and found the net in the top right corner for a 2-0 Logger lead.
In the 84th minute, Christine Isabella padded the Logger lead to 3-0 with a header off Maddie Janssen's corner kick.
The Pirates (1-4-1, 1-2-1) managed seven shots in the game although the Loggers held a 12-7 advantage in that category. Four different Pirates fired two shots in the match, but none found their way behind Merfeld.
The Loggers will travel to Whitman tomorrow for a noon NWC contest.
