Merfeld Records Second Shutout As Loggers Beat Missionaries

Box Score

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's soccer made it a sweep of the Whits with a 1-0 shutout of Whitman on Sunday. Kara Merfeld made nine saves in the match to earn her second shutout in her second start as a Logger.

Christine Isabella hit the game-winner for her fifth goal of the season in the 84th minute. Lauren Swanson and Abby Goss came away with the assists on the goal.

The Loggers (5-2, 3-1 NWC) goal was their only shot on goal in the match. The Missionaries (4-4, 3-2 NWC) outshot the Loggers 20-8 in a battle for the early lead in the Northwest Conference standings. However, Merfeld was equal to the task as she made a season-high nine saves.

The Loggers will travel across town to face Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday and then return home for a matchup with George Fox on Saturday.
