Acorda-Fey Powers Loggers Over Pios

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's soccer team returned to its winning ways Saturday afternoon at East Field with a 3-0 win over the visiting Lewis & Clark. The Loggers (6-3-1, 5-1-1 NWC) got on the scoreboard when Kylie Beeson put home a rebound off a Theresa Henle shot in the fourth minute.  Puget Sound would soon add another goal when the leading goal scorer Amalia Acorda-Fey lofted a shot over the head of Lewis & Clark goalkeeper Geena Fong from about 25 yards out.

Acorda-Fey would net a brace in the match, adding her second goal of the game, and sixth of the season, in the 63rd minute when she finished a beautiful through ball given to her by Theresa Henle in the lower right-hand corner. That was more offense than the Loggers needed on this day, as they recorded their fifth clean sheet in the last six matches. The Logger defense was solid all afternoon, allowing Lewis & Clark only 4 total shots.  Goalkeeper Kara Merfeld improved her record to 5-1-1, making 2 saves in the process.

Puget Sound travels south to Forest Grove, Ore. to take on the Pacific Boxers (5-3-3, 3-3-1 NWC) Sunday afternoon.  Kickoff is set for noon.  The Loggers return home Saturday, October 13 when they host conference-leading Whitworth at noon.  The match marks the first of three consecutive home matches for the Loggers.
