Surge Comes Too Late As Loggers Fall To Evergreen St.

Box Score

PARKLAND, Wash. – The Puget Sound men's basketball started a late run just a bit too late as the Loggers (1-3) fell 74-66 to Evergreen St. on Saturday. The Loggers trailed by as many as 27 points in the second half but ended the game on a 26-8 run over the final five minutes.

Derek Jobe and Riggs Yarbro led the Loggers with 11 points each. Rex Holmes added in 10 points to the effort. HJ Kong had a game-high 25 points for the Geoducks (1-4) to lead three scorers in double digits.

The Loggers hung around early but found themselves down by 12 points in the first half after a 7-0 run from the Geoducks. The Loggers cut the lead back into single digits and trailed by just six points after a Rex Nelson layup. The Geoducks knocked down a late free throw to hold a seven-point advantage at the break.

The momentum continued on the side of Evergreen St. as its lead ballooned to 27 points with just over nine minutes to go. The Loggers applied full court pressure and found a groove late but ran out of time before they could climb back all the way back into the game.

The Loggers shot just 31 percent on the night compared to 41 percent from the Geoducks. Kong's 6-of-7 effort from three-point range also keyed a 52 percent shooting night from beyond the arc for the Geoducks.

The Loggers will take a short break but return to Memorial Fieldhouse for their next game when they host a 7 p.m. game with St, Scholastica on Dec. 4.
