Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound volleyball team hit .240 as a team and Jackie Harvey had 19 kills in a 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 25-19 win over Whitman in Friday's Northwest Conference opener. The No. 11 Loggers (6-2, 1-0 NWC) had three players with double digit kills and four with double digit digs.
Harvey and the Loggers started out quick with Harvey tallying six kills in a dominating first set. The Loggers held the Missionaries to .087 hitting in the set to grab the 1-0 lead. In the second set, the Loggers hit a blistering .520 to grab a 2-0 lead.
However, the Missionaries (2-6, 0-1 NWC) would not go quietly as they came back to capture the third set. The Missionaries hit .227 in the set and Jillian Davis had five of her team-high 13 kills in the set. Whitman also had 10 service aces in the match.
The Loggers bounced back in the fourth set despite three Whitman aces in the set. Harvey tallied her final four kills and had four more digs for yet another double-double of 19 kills and 11 digs. Jenni Brehove had 46 assists to go along with 11 digs.
Christina Chun had a match-high 22 digs to go along with a pair of aces. The Loggers also tallied eight team block with Nicolette Reynaud coming away with three total blocks, including one solo block.
The 11th-ranked Loggers are back home to face defending champs Whitworth tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Memorial Fieldhouse.
