Loggers Dominate Paint In Third Straight WIn

Box Score

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Logger post players won the battle on the block to lead the Puget Sound women's basketball team to a 71-58 win at Linfield on Friday. Katy Ainslie led the Loggers (10-4, 3-2 NWC) with 14 points while Sarah Stewart turned in her second double-double of the season.

The Loggers dominated in the key, outscoring the Wildcats (1-9, 0-4 NWC) 24-10 in the paint. Ainslie and Stewart led that effort down low as they combined for 25 points. The two also combined for 19 rebounds as Stewart pulled down 11 boards to lead the effort. Five of Ainslie's eight rebounds came on the offensive glass.

Freshman Allie Wyszynski and Emily Sheldon also helped the Loggers 49-43 rebounding advantage with five and seven rebounds, respectively.

Sheldon scored the first points of the game when she knocked down a jumper just seven seconds into the contest and the Loggers never trailed. After Kaely Maltman tied it up at two for the Wildcats, Sheldon made another jump shot to spark an 8-0 Logger run.

Katelyn Henson ended the Wildcats three minute drought with the first of her game-high 16 points. Henson also turned in a double-double with 16 rebounds to match her 16 points while Maltman added 16 points and eight rebounds.

However, the Loggers would lead by at least two possessions the rest of the way. The lead reached as much as 14 points with nine minutes left in the first on a three-pointer from Amanda Forshay but the Wildcats chipped their way back into the game and trailed 41-34 at the break.

Henson immediately cut the lead down to five points to start the second half but that's as close as the Wildcats would get. With 15:17 left, Kelsey McKinnis knocked down a three-pointer to push the lead back into double digits at 48-38.

The Loggers kept the Wildcats at arm's length the rest of the way and came away with the road win to move over .500 in NWC play for the first time this season. The Logger bench continued to display its depth with 26 points on the night, led by eight from Erin Stumbaugh.

The Loggers head to No. 9 Lewis & Clark tomorrow for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
