Lutes Withstand Dominant Logger Attack In 1-1 Draw

Box Score

PARKLAND, Wash. – A dominant effort didn't translate into the dominant result as the Puget Sound women's soccer team tied Pacific Lutheran 1-1 in its Northwest Conference opener on Saturday. Both goals came in the first half.

The Loggers (2-1-1, 0-0-1 NWC)put up some impressive numbers in their NWC-opener but couldn't put the game-winner home to pick up the full three points. The Loggers outshot the Lutes (2-2-1, 0-0-1 NWC) 28-5 , including a 10-3 mark in shots on goal.

However, both teams found the back of the net once as the match ended in a draw after 110 minutes.

Lauren Larson knocked in the first goal of the match, lofting a 30 yard shot over the keeper and into the goal in the 26th minute. Just before halftime, the Loggers drew even.

Jordyn McLuen became the third Logger defender to score this season at the 44:01 mark to tie up the match at 1-1.

In the second half, the Loggers peppered the Lutes keeper with 10 shots and put three on goal while the Lutes shot just once and put it on frame. They would shoot once more in the second overtime but were able to keep the Loggers out of the net.

The Loggers struck eight more shots in the extra periods despite coming up empty.

Lauren Thomas made a pair of saves playing in the final 65 minutes and keeping the match knotted at 1-1. Takara Mitsui and Marisa Gonzalez split time equally and combined for nine saves.

The Loggers head south next weekend to continue their conference schedule. They will take on Linfield on Saturday at noon.
