Ellis Knocks In Game-Winner In Double OT

Box Score

SALEM, Ore. – Meghan Ellis finally gave the Puget Sound women's soccer team what it has been looking for. Ellis gave the Loggers their first victory in Northwest Conference play with a double overtime strike at Willamette. The Loggers improved to 1-1-2 in the NWC and 3-2-2 overall.

The goal was a long time coming for a team that shot 64 times this weekend in over 210 minutes of play. Despite outshooting both opponents, it took the Loggers until the 107th minute of this one to finally find the back of the net.

Their first 12 shots against Willamette (2-6-0, 0-4-0 NWC) still didn't find their way into the goal but Ellis was there to put in their 13th shot of the game.

Kylie Beeson helped set up the game-winner when she forced Bearcat keeper Nicole Price to make a save. Ellis was there to clean up the rebound and send the Loggers home with the sudden victory.

Price made four saves in the contest while Logger keepers Casey Thayer and Lauren Thomas combined to make four saves. Thomas made her third and final save just two minutes before the game-winner went in.

The Logger defense allowed just eight shots from the Bearcats although six were put on goal.

The Loggers are back on their home turf next weekend after playing on the road for all but one match so far this season. They will host Whitman on Saturday at noon on Peyton Field.
