Box Score TACOMA, Washington – A dominant defensive performance from the Puget Sound women's soccer team shutout Whitman 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Amalia Acorda-Fey scored the only goal of the game in the 16th minute. Her seventh goal of the year came unassisted as she dribbled up the field nearly 20 yards and fired a shot from the top of the box. The strong Logger defense held the Missionaries without a shot from the 45th minute onward. Goalkeeper Lauren Thomas recorded one save in her sixth shutout win of the year.
From the starting whistle, Puget Sound (10-3, 8-2 NWC) dominated the match. In the 16th minute, Acorda-Fey gave the Loggers a 1-0 lead over Whitman (7-6-2, 5-4-2 NWC) by firing in an unassisted shot from the top of the box. The Loggers controlled the midfield area and kept possession of the ball the majority of the half. Whitworth's only real chance of the game was saved by Thomas late in the period.
With the lead in the second half, the Loggers continued to keep the ball on the Missionaries end of the pitch. Puget Sound's defense led by Emma Donckels, Jordyn McLuen and Liz Blonden, Abigail Buckenberger and Meghan Ellis thwarted any chances the Whitworth forwards had. The Loggers did not allow the Missionaries to take a shot in the second half, securing the 1-0 win.
The Loggers outshot the Missionaries (12-2) and had more corner kicks (5-0). Puget Sound picked up one yellow card near the end of the match. Senior Annie Jonsson led the Loggers in shots with four.
Puget Sound looks to remain atop the Northwest Conference standings as it travels to take on Willamette and George Fox on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 both at 12pm.
