Box Score TACOMA, Washington – Robin Vieira scored her fourth goal of the season early in the second half and Amalia Acorda-Fey added an insurance goal late in the match as the No. 20 Puget Sound women's soccer team came away with a crucial 2-0 Northwest Conference win at Willamette on Saturday afternoon.
The Loggers (11-3, 9-2 NWC) and Bearcats (2-13-1, 1-10-1 NWC) entered halftime in a scoreless tie, although Puget Sound held a 5-2 advantage in shots.
Less than four minutes into the second half, Vieira buried a shot from 25 yards out into the lower right corner of the goal to give Puget Sound a 1-0 edge.
Acorda-Fey tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the year in the 83rd minute when she received a pass from Jacquelyn Anderson and scored from just over 20 yards out.
Lauren Thomas earned her seventh shutout of the season with two saves. Overall, Puget Sound outshot Willamette, 13-4, and took more corner kicks, 4-0.
With the win, the Loggers remain tied with Pacific Lutheran for first place in the NWC. Puget Sound plays at George Fox Sunday, Oct. 26, at 12 p.m.
