Box Score

TACOMA, WashingtonShawna Smith and Moira McVicar both finished a double-double as the Puget Sound volleyball team pushed its win streak to four games with a 3-1 victory (25-10, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17) at Pacific on Friday night.

The Loggers (5-9, 4-1 NWC) improved to a Northwest Conference-best 4-1 on the season. They are in a three-way tie with Pacific Lutheran and Linfield.

Smith finished with 11 kills and 14 digs while McVicar totaled 42 assists and 14 digs. Rachael Garrison led the Loggers with 15 digs and Nicolette Reynaud matched smith with 11 kills.

"We had a big blocking night," said Puget Sound head coach Mark Massey. "Our advantage at the net drove us to tonight's win. Outside hitters Smith, Heather Sangster, and Katie Rice all put up strong attack numbers."

The Loggers came away with 17 blocks while Pacific (5-8, 1-4 NWC) finished with just two.

Puget Sound opened the first set with a convincing 25-10 win, but the Boxers evened the score by edging the Loggers, 25-22, in the second set.

Hardly rattled by the second-set loss, the Loggers grabbed a 12-6 lead in the third set thanks to a kill by Smith. The Puget Sound lead grew to as much as 10 en route to a 25-18 win.

The Loggers maintained their momentum and claimed 20-11 lead in the fourth and final set on a kill by Rice. Reilly Fitzpatrick's kill sealed the set, 25-17, and the match.

Puget Sound returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, at George Fox. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
