Box Score TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's soccer season came to an end on Sunday afternoon after it played to a 0-0 draw against Centre in the second round of the NCAA Championships in snowy St. Louis, Missouri, but Centre advanced on penalty kicks, 7-6.
Puget Sound finishes the 2014 season with a 16-4-1 overall record, including the program's 13th consecutive Northwest Conference title.
The Loggers outshot the Colonels, 18-10, but suffered some bad luck as they were unable to find the back of the net. Puget Sound's best chance to score came off the foot of Annie Jonsson in the 59th minute. The All-NWC Second Team member beat the Centre goalkeeper on the left side, but the ball careened of the near post and landed back on Jonsson's foot. Her put-back opportunity sailed wide of the goal.
NWC Offensive Player of the Year Amalia Acorda-Fey ripped a shot in the 18-yard box early in the first overtime, but a Colonel defender narrowly deflected the attempt off target. All-NWC First-Team selection Robin Vieira hit the top of the crossbar late in the second overtime, and the ball bounced harmlessly out of bounds for a goal kick.
The Loggers went up 4-3 in penalty kicks after Lauren Thomas made a diving stop to her left. Liz Blonden, an All-NWC First Team member, followed with an attempt that went wide left, and Centre took advantage of the extra life.
