Box Score TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's soccer team took hold of second place in the Northwest Conference as it beat Linfield 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The game winning goal came in the 75th minute from Emily Prasil. She scored her first of the year by following up an initial shot by Grayson Williams-Krebs that was saved and deflected her way.
The Logger defense and goalkeeper Lauren Thomas recorded their 10th clean sheet of the year in the win.
In the first half for Puget Sound (13-4, 11-3 NWC) Lauren Hamilton and Amalia Acorda-Fey took shots that were saved by the Linfield (13-4, 10-4 NWC) goalkeeper Laurel Huth. Defensively, the Loggers did not allow a shot on goal in the period.
The second half started in a scoreless tie as the Loggers took two early shots that were blocked by the Wildcats. Acorda-Fey sent in corner kicks in the 53rd and 54th minutes that resulted in the blocked shots from Williams-Krebs and Haley Rosenberg. Puget Sound's hard work paid off with Prasil's goal in the 75th minute that ended up being the game winner.
Thomas's two saves of the match occurred in the final 10 minutes as she helped the Loggers preserve the 1-0 win.
The Wildcats outshot the Loggers (8-7) and had more corner kicks (6-5). Acorda-Fey and Williams-Krebs led the Loggers in shots with two.
Puget Sound returns home for its final two matches of the season. The Loggers take on Pacific at 11am on Friday, Nov. 7 and Lewis & Clark at 11am on Saturday, Nov. 8.
