Box Score 2 TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound volleyball team opened its 2014 campaign by hosting the Puget Sound Premier on Friday, and the Loggers split their first two games of the tournament.
Puget Sound (1-1) topped Corban in dramatic fashion, 3-2 (25-23, 16-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8), to win its first match of the season. Shawna Smith led the Loggers with 14 kills and teammate Rachael Garrison posted a team-high 22 digs. Moira McVicar's game-high 37 assists helped lead Puget Sound to a .227 attack percentage, while Corban finished with a .182 clip.
The Loggers weren't as efficient in their 3-1 loss to Bethel (Minn.) later in the day (25-27, 20-25, 25-20, 18-25). Puget Sound finished with a .137 kill percentage, and
Kristen Lane was the only Logger to record double-digit kills (10).
The Loggers continue the Puget Sound Premier on Saturday when they play cross-town rival Pacific Lutheran at 2p.m., and close out the tournament against Oregon Institute of Technology at 6 p.m.
