Box Score TACOMA, Washington –In a team effort, the Puget Sound women's soccer team defeated George Fox on Saturday afternoon. Three different attackers scored as the Loggers triumphed 3-0.
The Puget Sound offense was led by sophomore Jill Shimabuku. Shimabuku scored the first Logger goal and assisted on the second. Amalia Acorda-Fey and Haley Rosenberg threaded passes in front of the net to record the assist on Shimabuku's goal. Emma Donckels headed in the second goal for Puget Sound on a corner kick from Shimabuku early in the second half. Senior Annie Jonsson wrapped up for the scoring for the Loggers as she found the back of the net in the 68th minute.
In the first half, the Loggers (5-1, 3-0 NWC) had a strong passing game that allowed them to control possession. Shimabuku gave the Loggers a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on passes from Acorda-Fey and Rosenberg. The Bruins (0-5-2, 0-3 NWC) took their only shot of the game in the period.
Heading into the second half with a 1-0 lead, the Loggers came out hungry for more. Robin Vieira took two quick shots on goal before Donckels knocked one into the back of the net. Donckels second of the year came as she headed in a corner kick from Shimabuku in the 47th minute. The Loggers continued to control possession and pressed forward often. In the 68th minute Annie Jonsson netted her second goal of the year to bring the Loggers up 3-0 over the Bruins. The Puget Sound defense denied the Bruins a shot in the second half to secure the shutout win.
The Loggers outshot the Bruins (23-1) and had more corner kicks (9-1). Goalkeeper Lauren Thomas recorded one save in the shutout win. Acorda-Fey led the Loggers in shots with five while Donckels and Vieira each had four.
Puget Sound looks to continue its winning streak on Sunday, Sept. 28, at home against Willamette at 12 p.m.
