Box Score PORTLAND, Oregon – The University of Puget Sound women's soccer team defeated Lewis & Clark 1-0 on Saturday morning.
The Loggers (9-0-4, 5-0-4 NWC) and Pioneers (7-5-1, 3-5-1 NWC) opened the match fairly evenly. However, Puget Sound took control in the final 15 minutes of the first half.
In the 38th minute, the Loggers earned a corner kick. Off a short corner, Cassie Winter crossed the ball in front of the net where Jordyn McLuen was waiting to head home her first goal of the season.
Puget Sound remained in control in the second half, only allowing one Pioneer shot in the period. The stout Logger defense continued their dominance, earning a 10th shutout of the year.
Puget Sound outshot Lewis & Clark 12-4. The Loggers also edged the Pioneers in corner kicks (5-4). Amalia Acorda-Fey led the team with four shots, while goalkeeper Lauren Thomas (9-0-4) made two saves.
Puget Sound is unbeaten in 16 consecutive regular-season games, dating back to last fall. The team will next visit Linfield on Sunday, October 18. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
