Slow start dooms Loggers at No. 4/2 George Fox

Box Score

NEWBERG, Oregon – A lopsided first quarter was too much to overcome as the Puget Sound women's basketball team lost at No. 4/2 George on Friday night, 92-66.

The Bruins (5-0, 1-0 NWC), which entered the contest ranked No. 4 by D3hoops.com and No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, claimed a 33-5 lead through the first 10 minutes of the game. Despite the daunting deficit, Puget Sound (5-3, 1-1 NWC) kept pace with George Fox for the remaining three quarters.

Emily Sheldon – who earned Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the week in each of the season's first two weeks – scored a game-high 18 points despite battling foul trouble. She picked up two fouls in the first quarter, and was charged with her third while trying to draw an offensive foul in the final minute of the first half.

Alexis Noren tallied 14 points and six rebounds for the Loggers. Claire Fitzgerald continued to battle on the boards with her second consecutive eight-rebound game. Freshman Elizabeth Prewitt played a season-high 24 minutes and netted nine points.

Puget Sound returns to action at Evergreen State on Wednesday, Dec. 9, for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
