Historic offensive effort leads Loggers to win at Linfield

Box Score

McMINNVILLE, Oregon – The Puget Sound women's basketball team scored the most points in program history against a Northwest Conference opponent with a 96-77 triumph at Linfield on Friday night.

The Loggers' (19-3, 10-3 NWC) offensive outburst yielded the highest point total of the season, and the sixth-highest single-game score in program history.

Four Loggers scored in double-digits, lead Emily Sheldon's 22 points. She also added eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Amanda Forshay scored 21 points to go with seven rebounds, and Katy Ainslie finished with 12 points and eight boards. Alexis Noren chipped in 11 points and five assists.

"Tonight was a great team win," said Puget Sound head coach Loree Payne. "We had a lot of players contribute and we did a great job of distributing the ball."

Puget Sound led at halftime, 51-40, marking the second time this season that the Loggers have eclipsed 50 points in a half. Puget Sound completes its season sweep of the Wildcats (9-13, 3-10 NWC), as the Loggers averaged 92 points in two games against Linfield.

Puget Sound's 47.9 field-goal percentage on Friday is its second-best mark on the season, second to only the 59.2 percent against Colorado College (Dec. 6). The Loggers outrebounded Linfield, 41-31, and assisted on 24 of 34 made baskets. "Now that's a stat I love to see," Payne said of her team's assist total.

The Loggers look to wrap up another season sweep when they travel to Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Feb. 14, for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
