TACOMA, Washington – Four Puget Sound starters scored in double-figures as the No. 21 women's basketball team topped Whitman at Memorial Fieldhouse on Friday night, 70-64.

Both Puget Sound (21-3, 12-3 NWC) and Whitman (15-9, 10-5 NWC) entered Friday's game having already clinched a Northwest Conference Tournament berth, but the win increased the Loggers' chance of claiming the No. 2 seed and a postseason home game.

Emily Sheldon continued her brilliant play through the past three weeks as she led the Loggers with 16 points. Amanda Forshay netted 14 points, while Katy Ainslie followed with 13 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Ashley Agcaoili scored 11 points as the point guard controlled Puget Sound's fast tempo throughout the game.

The Loggers jumped out to a 14-6 lead through the first seven minutes, but the Missionaries battled back to even the score, 16-16, with just over eight minutes left in the first half. An 8-2 run allowed Puget Sound to claim a 24-18 lead, and the Loggers held a 31-25 lead at halftime thanks in large part to a defensive effort that limited the Missionaries to 28.2 percent from the floor.

Although Whitman came within two points a few times in the second half, Puget Sound never trailed throughout the entire game. Agcaoili's 3-pointer with 3:54 on the clock made it 62-56, and the Missionaries didn't come within one possession from that point on.

The Loggers host No. 20 Whitworth on Saturday, Feb. 21, for a 4 p.m. tipoff in the regular-season finale. Puget Sound will honor its senior class prior to tipoff.
