Box Score

WHEATON, Illinois – The University of Puget Sound women's soccer team won its season opener with a 1-0 victory over Emory University on Friday morning at the Bob Baptista Invitational hosted by Wheaton College.

Senior Amalia Acorda-Fey scored the lone goal of the match in the 22nd minute. Five of the Loggers six shots were recorded in the first half. Acorda-Fey led the team with four shots. Puget Sound held the Eagles to just two shots in the second half until the final minutes, when they began to push for an equalizer.

The Loggers were outshot by Emory (8-6) and took fewer corner kicks (8-6), but a strong defensive effort and four saves by goalkeeper Lauren Thomas gave Puget Sound the shutout victory. Since 2000, the squad is 12-3-1 in season openers.

Puget Sound's next match will be Saturday, September 5, when they take on tournament host Wheaton College at 2:30 p.m.
