Jackson and Sheldon both drop 21 in victory over No. 21 Whitman

WALLA WALLA, Washington – Samone Jackson and Emily Sheldon each scored 21 points as the Puget Sound women's basketball team defeated No. 21 Whitman 68-60 on Friday evening.

Jackson was 7-for-15 from the floor, and 3-for-5 from 3-point range to set a new career-high of 21 points. Emily Sheldon also scored 21 points and recorded five rebounds. The senior has scored in double-digits in 14 of 15 games so far this season. Allie Wyszynski tied a career-high with 11 rebounds. 

The Loggers (10-6, 5-2 NWC) jumped out to a quick lead, but the Missionaries (12-3, 5-2 NWC) outscored Puget Sound 14-4 in the second quarter to hold a 32-27 lead at halftime. The Loggers outscored Whitman 21-12 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory against a foe that entered the game sitting just ahead of them in the Northwest Conference standings.    

Puget Sound shot 44.2 percent (23-for-52) from the field, while the Missionaries shot 41.7 percent (25-for-60). The Loggers were 8-for-16 (50.0 percent) from beyond the arc, while Whitman was 3-for-10 (30.0 percent). The Loggers held a 36-32 rebounding edge.  

Puget Sound will next play Whitworth on Saturday, January 23 at 4 p.m.
