Prewitt nets career-high 19 points in 87-69 win at Whitworth

SPOKANE, Washington – Freshman Elizabeth Prewitt scored a career-high 19 points and Emily Sheldon added 24 points as the Puget Sound women's basketball team notched its second road win in as many days with an 87-69 triumph at Whitworth on Saturday evening.

Alexis Noren tallied her fourth double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Samone Jackson, who scored 21 points during the Loggers' (11-6, 6-2 NWC) win at No. 21 Whitman on Friday night, poured in 17 points against the Pirates (10-7, 5-3 NWC).

Prewitt missed just once in 28 minutes of action, shooting 8-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. She also came away with a career-best seven rebounds.

The game featured the Northwest Conference's top two leading scorers: Sheldon and Whitworth's K.C. McConnell. Sheldon entered the contest averaging 20.3 points per game, and McConnell 19.6. McConnell finished with 29 points in the loss to Puget Sound.

The Loggers held a four-point lead at halftime, 36-32, but they completely dominated the second half and outscored Whitworth, 51-37, in the final 20 minutes. Puget Sound shot 65.4. percent in the final two quarters (55.6 percent overall), and held the Pirates to just 36.8 percent for the game.

The Loggers return to Memorial Fieldhouse on Friday, Jan. 26, to crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran at 6 p.m.
