Box Score MCMINNVILLE, Oregon – Jacquelyn Anderson and Annie Prickett each tallied a goal, as the Puget Sound women's soccer team defeated Linfield, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.
After failing to score a goal in a tie on Saturday, the Loggers (8-1-1, 5-0-1) came out on the offensive foot, recording three shots in the first ten minutes. In the 15th minute, Emmy Owens had the ball along the right flank. She picked out Anderson with her cross, and the junior hammered home her fourth goal of the year.
Puget Sound did not take long in the second half to increase its lead. In the 49th minute, Grayson Williams-Krebs had a shot saved. Prickett collected the rebound, and fired the ball into the back of the net.
Linfield (2-6-2, 2-2-2 NWC) got one goal back in the 79th minute on a Jamie Mars tally. However, the Loggers' defense held firm, and earned the conference victory.
The Wildcats outshot the Loggers, 22-12, and also took more corner kicks (2-1). Goalkeeper Lauren Thomas (8-1-1) earned the win, playing all 90 minutes, making five saves and allowing one goal. Williams-Krebs led the Loggers with three shots.
Puget Sound's next match will be Wednesday, October 5, when the team hosts Pacific Lutheran for a midweek game. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Peyton Field.
