Box Score TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's soccer team fell to Pacific Lutheran, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
The two teams tied, 0-0, earlier in the year, and as the first half played out, it appeared that the match might be headed to a similar ending. Pacific Lutheran (15-0-4, 12-0-3 NWC) outshot the Loggers (13-3-3, 10-2-3 NWC) 3-2 in the period, and the teams entered the break scoreless.
The Lutes came out in the second half on the front foot, and took the lead in the 59th minute on a Kaylie Rozell goal. Puget Sound then had a spell of possession, but on a counterattack in 68th minute, PLU doubled its lead. The Loggers were unable to make a late comeback, and ultimately fell to their crosstown rival.
Pacific Lutheran outshot Puget Sound, 8-4, while the Loggers took more corner kicks (4-3). Goalkeeper Lauren Thomas (13-3-3) played all 90 minutes, making one save.
With the victory, Pacific Lutheran clinched the Northwest Conference title, snapping the Loggers' streak of 14-consecutive titles.
Puget Sound's final game of the regular season will be at Lewis & Clark on Sunday, November 6. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
