Box Score NEWBERG, Oregon – Bailey Edwards' third goal of the year lead the Loggers, as they defeated George Fox, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. The team has now won six games in a row, after dropping their opening match.
Despite outshooting the Bruins (1-5-1, 1-2 NWC) 7-5 in the first half, the Loggers (6-1, 3-0 NWC) were unable to find the back of the net, and the two teams went into the break tied, 0-0.
It was not long into the second half before the Loggers grabbed the lead. In the 48th minute, Tess Peppis sent a corner kick in front of the net, where Bailey Edward's head was waiting to direct the ball into the goal. After not scoring in her first three seasons, the defender has now scored three goals in her senior year.
Puget Sound relied on its defense for the remainder of the game, holding George Fox off the scoreboard for the Loggers' third clean sheet of the year.
The Loggers outshot the Bruins, 17-9, and also took more corner kicks (7-4). Goalkeeper Lauren Thomas (6-1) earned the win, playing all 90 minutes and making three saves. Grayson Williams-Krebs led the Loggers with seven shots.
Puget Sound's next match will be Sunday, September 25, when the team travels to Pacific. The Loggers will look to extend their winning streak to seven, beginning at 12 p.m.
