TACOMA, Washington – A 3-1 win over crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran was a fitting finish for the Puget Sound volleyball team as the Puget Sound Premiere came to a close on Saturday in Memorial Fieldhouse. Earlier in the day, the Loggers lost to No. 8 Carthage, 3-0.

Puget Sound 0, No. 8 Carthage 3 (25-18, 25-22, 25-16)

The Loggers (2-2) limited one of the top teams in the country to a .191 attack percentage, but Puget Sound attacked at just a .091 clip as it was blanked by the Lady Reds. Carthage was held below its season average of a .211 kill percentage, but the Loggers were still outmatched.

Carthage asserted its dominance early by taking a 9-1 lead in the first set. The Loggers were able to even the score, 11-11, following three consecutive Lady Red errors and a kill by Hannah Stinson. The Loggers were able to keep pace until Carthage grabbed a 21-15 lead.

Puget Sound gave Carthage a run in the second set. A kill by Rita Dexter evened things up, 6-6, in the early going, and the Loggers weren't done there. Consecutive kills by Stinson made it a two-point game, 22-20, but Carthage put away the next three points.

Stinson finished with a weekend-best 15 kills.

Puget Sound 3, Pacific Lutheran 1 (25-23, 25-19, 16-25, 25-16)

Hannah Stinson continued her stellar play by putting away 13 kills as the Loggers beat the Lutes in non-conference play. Puget Sound totaled eight blocks and held Pacific Lutheran to just a 0.91 attack percentage.

Moira McVicar broke an 8-8 score by serving the Loggers to four consecutive points, and Puget Sound never relinquished the lead for the rest of the set.

Rita Dexter's ace early in the fourth set sparked an 8-0 run to give the Loggers a 9-1 lead. The Puget Sound advantage peaked at 15-5 following a kill by Katie Rice.

Puget Sound next competes in the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational, hosted by No. 1 Cal Lutheran, starting on Sept. 9.
