Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – First-year head coach Casey Kushiyama notched his first-career victory when the Puget Sound women's basketball team outlasted Claremont-M-S, 69-85, during the final day of the Doug McArthur Classic in Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Puget Sound (1-1) defense limited the Athenas (1-1) to just 29.3 percent shooting from the floor. On the offensive end, Cassidy Daugherty led the Loggers with 13 points. Mara Henderson added 11 points and five rebounds, and Elizabeth Prewitt scored 10 points.

The Loggers entered halftime with a 30-21 lead, as Claire Fitzgerald led the way for the Loggers with nine points and seven rebounds through the first 20 minutes.

CMS raced out to an 8-2 lead in the first quarter, but the Loggers started to chip away. A pair of free throws by RaeAnn Allen gave the Loggers a 13-12 late in the first quarter, and Puget Sound closed out the frame with an 18-15 lead.

Puget Sound entered the fourth quarter with a 12-point lead, 49-37. A 3-pointer by the Athenas cut the Loggers' lead to single digits, 67-60, with 1:39 left in regulation, but Puget Sound was able fend off a CMS comeback bid.

The Loggers return to the hardwood at Multnomah Bible on Friday, Nov. 24, at 6 p.m.
