Wohrer matches season-high 23 points as Loggers beat Willamette

SALEM, Oregon – Jimmy Wohrer matched his season high with 23 points as the Puget Sound men's basketball team beat Willamette, 70-62, on Saturday night.

Wohrer played in all but two minutes, shooting 9-for-15 from the floor and 4-for-9 from 3-point range. Freshman Stellan Roberts played in a season-high 32 minutes and pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with five points. Carlos Mancasola netted 16 points for the Loggers (12-9, 5-7 NWC).

Puget Sound opened the game with a 7-0 run through the first 1:13. Kohl Meyer started the scoring with a layup, Wohrer followed with a 3-pointer, and Mancasola knocked down a pair of free throws.

Willamette (3-18, 1-11 NWC) battled back to take a 15-14 lead midway through the first half, but the Loggers carried a 28-26 lead into halftime thanks to a late layup by Wohrer.

The Loggers began to pull away after the game was tied, 48-48, with 7:39 left in regulation. Zach Miller made a layup, Wohrer hit from beyond the arc, and Mancasola got a bucket the rim to give the Loggers a 55-48 lead with 4:46 to play.

Puget Sound struggled to find its shot, finishing with a 39.0 field-goal percentage. However, the Loggers' defense forced Willamette into 20 turnovers. Puget Sound turned the ball over 13 times.

The Loggers return home on Friday, Feb. 10, to host No. 2 Whitman at 8 p.m.
