TACOMA, Washington – Rita Dexter tallied a career-high 19 kills to lead the Puget Sound volleyball team to a 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 15-8) comeback victory over Whitman on Friday night in Memorial Fieldhouse.

The first three sets were all decided by a 25-22 margin, but the Loggers (4-4, 1-0 NWC) were on the short end in two of those sets.

Determined to push the game into a fifth and decisive set, Puget Sound trailed only once (3-2) in the fourth set. A kill by Alli Reviglio broke a 7-7 tie, and the Blues (0-6, 0-1 NWC) committed three consecutive errors to give Puget Sound an 11-7 edge. An ace from Rachael Garrison gave the Loggers a 15-11 lead and forced Whitman to call a timeout. The Loggers' lead never dipped below three points from there on out, and the first Northwest Conference game of the season went into the fifth set.

Whitman opened the fifth set by committing three consecutive errors, and Reviglio's service ace put the Loggers ahead, 4-0, as the Blues called a timeout. The brief stoppage in play didn't slow the Loggers, and they held an 8-2 advantage before switching sides of the court. The Blues showed signs of life by cutting the Puget Sound lead to 11-6, but a kill by Kristen Miguel from the left side provided the exclamation point as the Loggers won the set, 15-8, and the match 3-2.

Reviglio finished with a double-double (12 kills, 13 digs), and Garrison led all players with 29 digs. Moira McVicar posted 49 assists in the winning effort. Puget Sound finished with a .233 kill percentage, compared to Whitman's .157 mark. The Loggers totaled a season-best 12 blocks.

Puget Sound continues its NWC schedule at home against Whitworth on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m.
