Five Loggers score in double figures, but Eagles top Puget Sound

TACOMA, Washington – Each starting Logger scored in double figures, but the Puget Sound men's basketball team lost to Benedictine (Ill.), 97-85, in Memorial Fieldhouse Thursday night.

Puget Sound (4-7) senior Jimmy Wohrer entered the contest as the Northwest Conference's leading scorer, and he poured in a game-high 23 points against the Eagles (5-5). Gabriel Chaikin netted 17 points for Puget Sound, marking his seventh game this season scoring in double figures. 

Cal Hansen scored 12 points, followed by Stellan Roberts with 11, and Max Basile with 10. Roberts also came away with team highs in rebounds (eight) and assists (five). Anthony Rumasuglia nearly became the sixth Logger to score 10 or more points Thursday, as he finished with nine in nine minutes.

The Loggers entered halftime in a three-point deficit, 46-43, as Puget Sound relied heavily on three scorers. Chaikin had 12 points in the opening 20 minutes, followed by 11 points from Wohrer and 10 from Hansen.

The Loggers shot 61.5 percent from the floor in the first half, but they drastically cooled off in the second half to the tune of 42.1 percent shooting. 

The Eagles shot nearly 80 percent (79.2) from the floor in the second half.

Puget Sound is off for a few weeks before returning to its NWC schedule at Pacific, Jan. 4.
