Loggers downed by No. 9 Lutes in three sets

Box Score

PARKLAND, Washington - The young Puget Sound volleyball team demonstrated veteran poise, but the Loggers ultimately lost at No. 9 Pacific Lutheran, 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-22), in a Northwest Conference battle Wednesday night.

The match was the second this season between the Loggers and Lutes. PLU beat the Loggers during the Puget Sound Premiere, Sept. 1.

With the Lutes holding a 24-19 edge in the first set, the Loggers refused to back down. Sadie Alloway put away a kill to keep the Loggers in striking distance, and forced Pacific Lutheran to call a timeout. However, the Lutes came back to claim the set's next point.

Consecutive aces by Sydney Voss gave the Loggers a 9-8 lead in the second set, but the Lutes went on a 6-1 run to take a four-point lead. During the third set PLU was up by double digits, 14-3, but Puget Sound rallied back as a Madie Lage kill cut the deficit to 17-13. A service ace by Sarah Blumenfeld brought the Loggers to within 19-17, and a kill by Melanie Siacotos kept the Loggers within two points, 22-20. Still, the Lutes held on to win in three sets.

The Loggers continue their stretch of four conescutive NWC road matches when they travel to Lewis & Clark, Saturday, Sept. 21, for a 7 p.m. start.
