Balanced attack leads to 85-75 win over Willamette

Box Score

TACOMA, Washington – Five Loggers scored in double figures as the Puget Sound men's basketball team beat Willamette, 85-75, in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night. It marks the Loggers' second victory in their last three Northwest Conference games.

Jimmy Wohrer led the Loggers (6-8, 2-3 NWC) with 17 points, and Stellan Roberts followed with 16. Cal Hansen recorded his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Gabriel Chaikin's 13 points marks his ninth game scoring in double figures.

Zach Gelacio tallied 11 points in 15 minutes off the bench.

The Loggers continued to assert that they're best 3-point shooting team in the NWC by hitting 10 of 20 3-point attempts against the Bearcats (3-11, 1-5). Although the Loggers lead the NWC in 3-point shooting (42.6 percent), the Loggers are 3-0 this season when they attempt no more than 20 3-pointers in a game.

The Loggers found themselves in an early hole, 18-10, but Puget Sound fought back and a Wohrer trey tied the score, 25-25, with 10:11 on the clock in the first half. After a 27-27 tie score with 6:30 left in the first half, Walker Shibley-Styer drilled a 3-pointer and the Loggers never trailed for the rest of the game.

Shibley-Styer was nearly the sixth Logger to score in double figures, as he finished with nine points.

Puget Sound hosts Lewis & Clark Saturday, Jan. 12, at 6 p.m.
