Late defensive stands lead Loggers to win at Pacific

Box Score

FOREST GROVE, Oregon - Clutch shots by Cassidy Daugherty and Jamie Lange, and a couple of big defensive stops allowed the Puget Sound women's basketball team to win its sixth consecutive game with a 63-61 victory at Pacific Friday night.

The Loggers (9-2, 2-1 NWC) were down by two points with two minutes left in regulation when Daugherty drilled a 3-pointer to give the Loggers a 60-59 edge. Pacific (6-6, 0-3 NWC) responded by hitting a jumper, but the Loggers quickly reclaimed a one-point lead when Lange hit a layup off an assist by Mara Henderson.

The next two Pacific possessions ended with the ball in RaeAnn Allen's hands. She grabbed the defensive board following a missed 3-pointer, and she halted the Boxers' next possession with a steal.

Daugherty was sent to free-throw line with eight second left, and she made one attempt to cushion the Loggers' lead to 63-61. Puget Sound's stifling defense didn't allow Pacific to get a shot off before the final buzzer.

Elizabeth Prewitt tied for the game-high in scoring with 21 points, and Gia Sorn notched her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards. Puget Sound won the battle on the boards, 38-29.

The Loggers play at Linfield Saturday, Jan. 5, at 4 p.m.
