Box Score TACOMA, Washington – The Northwest Conference season began with an emphatic 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-18) victory for the Puget Sound volleyball team, as the Loggers blanked Whitman in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night.
The Loggers (6-7, 1-0 NWC) posted a .214 attack percentage, marking their second-best offensive game of the season. Puget Sound hit .237 in a win over Occidental (Sept. 6).
Cara Bolte came away with a .333 attack percentage against the Blues (0-7, 0-1 NWC), and she led the Loggers with nine kills.
The second set provided the most drama of the night. Whitman held a 16-12 lead, but a kill by Katherine Carley followed by an ace from Aliah Ayau brought the Loggers within two. The Blues built their lead to 20-16, and that's when the Loggers went on a 6-2 run. Consecutive blocks by Maggie Jones tied the set, 22-22.
A kill by Bolte sealed the second-set comeback win, 25-23.
Puget Sound next hosts Whitworth Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.
