Box Score NEWBERG, Oregon – Mara Henderson dropped a season-high 18 points and Jamie Lange notched her 11th double-double of the season, but the Puget Sound women's basketball team came up just short at No. 20 George Fox, 59-58, Friday night.
The Loggers (7-9, 1-6 NWC) entered the fourth quarter trailing by seven points, 51-44, but Henderson opened the scoring in the final period by hitting a jumper. Following a defensive stop, Henderson hit another jumper to cut the deficit to 51-48.
Puget Sound continued to hold the Bruins (12-4, 4-3 NWC) scoreless in the fourth quarter when Lange hit a game-tying layup, 51-51, with 5:12 on the clock. George Fox, however, finally slowed the Loggers' run by hitting a 3-pointer to reclaim the lead, 54-51.
A layup and free-throw by Lange tied the score, 54-54, with 2:43 left in regulation, but the long ball remained true for the Bruins as they answered with yet another triple. George Fox held the lead for the rest of the game.
Henderson shot 8-for-15 from the floor while Lange totaled 20 points and 12 rebounds. Puget Sound outrebounded George Fox, 43-32.
The Loggers remain in Oregon to take on Willamette Saturday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m.
