Box Score TACOMA, Washington – Despite battling to an even score early in the fourth quarter, the Puget Sound women's basketball team lost to No. 9 Whitman, 59-47, in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday evening.
The teams went into halftime knotted up at 26-26, but the Blues (17-2, 9-1 NWC) opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run. The Whitman lead grew to 38-31, but Puget Sound (9-10, 3-7 NWC) continued to battle.
A jumper by Katie Minnehan cut the deficit to 40-36 with 2:18 left in the third quarter. Following a defensive stop, Cassidy Daugherty connected on a driving layup to make it a 40-38 game.
The fourth quarter began in similar fashion as the third quarter ended, and Daugherty hit another layup to tie the game, 40-40. Whitman, however, responded with five consecutive points. The Loggers did not get closer than three points for the rest of the game.
Jamie Lange tallied her 15th double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Mara Henderson matched Lange's 12 points, and Daugherty added 10.
The Loggers are on the road next week at Linfield Friday, Feb. 7. Tipoff is at 8 p.m.
