Box Score PARKLAND, Washington – A sense of urgency came about too late and the Puget Sound women's basketball team lost at Pacific Lutheran, 67-62, Tuesday night.
Puget Sound (11-11, 5-8 NWC) trailed for a majority of the game. The Loggers were down by 10, 57-47, in the fourth quarter when Cassidy Daugherty hit a 3-pointer to bring the deficit to single digits with 4:35 left in the game.
The Loggers continued to chip away on both ends of the court. Jamie Lange forced a steal on defense, which led to Mara Henderson's pull-up jumper that made it a 59-54 game with 3:05 remaining.
The score was 59-55 when RaeAnn Allen came up with a steal and 2:00 on the clock. Puget Sound's ensuing possession led to two good looks at 3-point attempts, but neither shot could cut the Lutes' (10-12, 5-8 NWC) lead to just one point.
Undeterred, Lange capitalized on a trip to the foul line and cut the score to 62-60 with 53 seconds remaining. The Loggers' defense intensified its pressure, but PLU hit an off-balance 3-pointer at the shot clock buzzer, putting the game out of reach.
Lange notched her 16th double-double of the season by leading all players in scoring and rebounding with 25 and 16, respectively. Daugherty added 12 points for Puget Sound.
Puget Sound is back in Memorial Fieldhouse to host Lewis & Clark Friday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m.
