TACOMA, Washington – Cal Hansen nearly notched a double-double, but the Puget Sound men's basketball team lost to Whitworth, 83-63, in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday evening.

Hansen totaled 19 points and nine rebounds for the Loggers (0-2, 0-2 NWC). He shot 8-for-14 from the floor, and added a block and a steal.

Puget Sound fans anticipate more games like this out of Hansen. The junior led the Loggers in rebounding in each of his first two seasons with the Maroon & White. But his performance Saturday wasn't enough against the Pirates (4-3, 2-0 NWC).

Whitworth shot 51.7-percent from the floor, while the Loggers finished with a mark of 36.8-percent.

Freshman Paul Johnson scored in double figures for the first time in his young career. He totaled 12 points after shooting 2-for-3 from 3-point range, and 4-for-6 overall from the floor.

The Loggers take on Whitman next week, Jan. 29-30, in Walla Walla, Washington.

Fans and family are not permitted at athletic events this year.
