Teclemariam's double-double not enough at Chapman

Box Score
ORANGE, California – Mussie Teclemariam notched his first double-double of the season, but the Puget Sound men's basketball team lost at Chapman, 63-56, Saturday night.

Teclemariam finished with a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Loggers (2-1). Cal Hansen added 11 points and eight rebounds, and freshman Taj Phillips reached double figures in scoring for the first time with 10 points.

Puget Sound shot just 15-percent (3-for-20) from 3-point range, and 33.3-percent from the floor. Despite the shooting woes, the Loggers held a 29-25 lead over Chapman (1-0) at halftime.

Four minutes into the second half, Phillips hit a 3-pointer to push the lead to 41-34. The Panthers tied the game, 44-44, midway through the second half, but Teclemariam quickly responded with a layup.

Chapman broke through to take the lead, 54-52, by hitting a couple of free-throws with just under four minutes left. It did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game.

The Loggers remain in California to take on Redlands Saturday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m.
