Box Score TACOMA, Washington – Senior running back
Silas Washington set the Puget Sound record for rushing yards in a game as the Puget Sound football team toppled Willamette, 62-34, on Senior Day in Baker Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Washington ran for 318 yards and scored six touchdowns against the Bearcats. He broke Rory Lee's 2006 record of 310 rushing yards (vs. Menlo). Lee scored seven touchdowns in that record-setting game 15 years ago – one more touchdown than Washington had Saturday.
Washington was able to set the single-game game record running behind offensive linemen
Dom Torregroza,
Braden Castleberry-Taylor,
Griffin Hartshorn,
Caleb Puapuaga, and
Calyb Sauao-to'a.
Washington finished the season with 1,235 rushing yards, becoming the first 1,000-yard rushing in 15 years for the Loggers. He came up 43 yards shy of matching Lee's single-season record.
Senior quarterback
Murdock Rutledge accounted for three touchdowns against Willamette – twice with his legs. He had an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and a 20-yard scoring sprint in the third quarter.
Rutledge also connected with
Simon Yim for a 26-yard touchdown pass late in the firs quarter. Rutledge finishes his career as Puget Sound's all-time leader in passing yards (7,763), passing touchdowns (65), and completions (634).
Two-time All-American wide receiver
AJ Johnson had eight catches for 143 yards, marking his third 100-yard game of the season. The senior finishes his career with school records in receptions (285) and receiving yards (3,338).
A freshman duo led the Loggers in tackles against Willamette.
Amarian Culpepper had a team-high nine tackles, and
Tristan Hofmann added seven. Senior
Lucas Varela had six tackles (one for a loss), and one pass breakup.
